Teaching Junior Archery
By Ted Lake @ 6:37 AM :: 1659 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Hunting - Bowhunting, Learn How to Hunt

Junior archery can be taught at home in the backyard or at a nearby club, or even at your nearby dealership that sells bows and arrows. But first, you as a parent or guardian must realize the importance of why a sport of this nature can give direction to a good and clean fulfilling life to a youngster.

In this day and age when gangs and drugs are brought into their lives at such an early age, children need to be taught a different source of interest to keep them occupied and on the correct path to becoming good citizens and to have good social behaviors. Junior archery, when taught with safety in mind, gives the child many different directions in which they may follow. They begin to understand how to be competitive, which helps them to be competitive in school, which then leads to the competitive job market.

The sport of archery almost always leads to the out of doors and is a good source of exercise. Even if your child is disabled the bow and arrow may be the answer to their needs. Children want to learn, so why not teach them a sport where they learn to get along with each other, no matter what social indifferences they may have. The great out doors will give them the opportunity to learn and respect Mother Nature and I don’t know a child that does not want to know more about the outdoors and what Mother Nature has to offer.

Archery is a sport that anyone can learn when given the proper instructions and safety rules. If you are a parent or guardian, get involved along with your child. Learn the proper procedures and begin a relationship with the children who are “our future.” Teach them to get along with each other and to respect and help others. When teaching them the proper safety and handling of the bow and arrow, you as the teacher, need to remember at some time and point these children will become the teachers.

When you first start teaching the sport of bowmanship you must know for yourself every function of each piece of equipment used on the bow or the arrow. For example; explain the limbs and handle of the bow or the arrow rest and it’s function. Then explain the bow string and its nocking point or the spot where the arrow is nocked. Explain how to properly string a recurve or straight bow. Explain why the arrow has one different colored vane (cock feather) and the position of it always facing out. Show them the different styles of points for the arrow and why you use these different points for different circumstances on the tips of the arrow. Tell them why you use finger protection or releases and armguards. As they get more involved, you may have to tell them about front sites and peep sites or the purpose of a stabilizer or bow strap.

ll these items of interest can be learned through books, DVD’s or simply taking classes or courses on how to teach the sport of archery and SAFETY.

Most of all when teaching junior archery classes show them how much fun and enjoyable it can be. When it is possible get involved yourself and see how enjoyable it can be to you and your children. KEEP IT SAFE!

GOOD HUNTING!
