Here is R.J.'s story:
July 9th, 2005 Robert John Moore “RJ” caught a 37” muskie at an amazing 39” tall and only 4 yrs old. We were fishing deer lake, north of Deer River, MN.
RJ had casted up in the weeds while bass fishing, using a zebco 33, ultralight rod and 6lb test with a 6“ power bait lizard. Soon after he began to yell, “DAD I GOT ONE, DAD I GOT ONE!!!! As usual RJ had forgot to trip the bail on his reel and almost all the line was out. Dad thought it was a weed but quickly realized it was a big fish. After 20 minutes of a very intense fight, Robert, who was standing in the middle of the boat the whole time because of the fear of being pulled in, landed his fish of a life time.
The most amazing part of the story is that after all the pictures of Robert struggling to hold up this beautiful fish, he took one look at the tape and said, “aw dad, he's not big enough. Can I help you release it?” Spoken like a true sportsman!! |

It Warms the Heart.
There is just nothing greater than watching a kid get excited about fishing. Skinny and I have been gearing up to meet little R.J. Moore, the winner of the 2005 JustNorth Outdoors "Take-a-Kid-Fishing" photo contest, next week to film his big adventure with professional fishing guide, Brian Larson.
We have been in contact with R.J's parents that tell us he is so excited for his big day to come. We, at JustNorth Outdoors, are planning to make that day one that he will remember forever. Segue Stone has made up a beautiful, sand carved, glass picture frame that includes R.J's picture and tells the story of his battle with a muskie. This plaque, and his official Team JustNorth hat will be presented to R.J. on his big day.
RandyMan, JustNorth Outdoors columnist, is coming down from the North woods to attend the event. We hope to share with you many great pictures of the event and hope that R.J. has a great big smile in every one of them.
Ol' JustNorth
