The Citizens Committee for Michigan State Parks will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Room 213 of the Foster Community Center, located at 200 N. Foster St. in Lansing.

The morning session will be devoted to a summary of the parks and recreation strategic planning sessions that took place in November 2006, and breakout discussions on strategic planning and work plan goals and objectives for 2007. The regular session begins with public comment at 12:30 p.m. The committee will receive reports and work plans from its subcommittees on Fee/Short-Term and Long-Term Finance, Marketing and Interpretation, Programming and Operations and Stewardship. Updates will also be provided on the proposed recognition policies, 2006 public comments received, 2007 performance and financial status, results of the morning breakout discussions, and various land, policy and legislative issues.

The Citizens Committee is an advisory committee created by Public Act 392 of 2004 to address issues concerning state parks, including planning for sustainable funding in the future.

Individuals attending the meeting are requested to refrain from using heavily scented personal care products in order to enhance accessibility for everyone. Persons with disabilities needing accommodations for the meeting should contact the DNR Parks and Recreation Division at 517-335-4827 a minimum of five working days before the meeting. Requests made less than five days before the event may not be accommodated.

For more information regarding the meeting, contact the DNR Parks and Recreation Division or visit the Citizens Committee web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr.
