The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today reminded anglers to keep the fishing guides they obtained last year when they purchased their fishing license.
In 2006, as part of the DNR's efforts to reduce costs to the Game and Fish Protection Fund, which pays for fishing and hunting programs in Michigan, the DNR published a two-year Fishing Guide and Inland Trout & Salmon Guide. Fisheries officials said this effort resulted in a savings of $150,000 to the Game and Fish Protection Fund.
The DNR is asking all anglers who obtained a fishing guide in 2006 to keep these guides for the upcoming 2007 fishing season. Although the regulations contained in the guides remain in effect through March 31, 2008, anglers still need to purchase a fishing license for this year. 2007 fishing licenses go on sale March 1.
Anglers who misplaced their guides or who need additional copies can access a printer-friendly version on the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr/fishing.
