The
Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center in Oden is offering three programs in April and May to celebrate Earth Day and the opening of trout fishing season. All programs are free; however, participants should preregister for the April 7 and May 5 programs by calling the visitor center at (231) 348-0998.
- Saturday, April 7, at noon -- Fly-tying Clinic. Get ready for the trout opener by learning to tie a few common flies to entice the wily trout! Program takes place at the Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center. All ages are welcome but space is limited.
- Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- Earth Day at the Oden State Fish Hatchery. Join the DNR and our community friends for an afternoon of stewardship learning and fun. Many activities are planned, including a live sea lamprey presentation, hatchery tours, nature programs, raffle, refreshments and live musical entertainment. Park at the Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center on US-31. No registration needed for this program.
- Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. -- DNR/Trout Unlimited Youth Fishing Clinic. Join the hatchery staff and our friends from the Miller VanWinkle Chapter of T.U. for our 2nd annual Youth Fishing Clinic. One hundred youngsters are invited to register for a fun day of learning about Michigan's unique fishery. Eight learning stations in all. Register your child beginning April 3 by calling the visitor center at (231) 348-0998.
The visitor center will reopen for its summer season Saturday, May 26. Public tours of the fish hatchery are available year-round. Visitors should call (231) 348-0998 to make a reservation.
