Michigan Department of Natural Resources park and recreation officials announced that Traverse City State Park will host a morning bicycle trail ride and an afternoon of beach fun as a "GO-Get Outdoors" event on Saturday, June 9.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a guided bicycle ride will follow the Traverse Area Recreational Trail from the state park to the Traverse City downtown area. On the return trip to the state park, a guided hike on the Refitt Nature Preserve trail system is planned. From 1 to 3 p.m., a series of events and games are planned at the park's beach area. Sand castle building, face painting, sidewalk chalk and volleyball are all scheduled for the afternoon.
The events honor "Project GO-Get Outdoors," developed to celebrate outdoor recreation and the role it plays in improving the quality of life for Michigan residents and visitors.
All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the recreation area entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
For more information regarding this event, contact David Johns, park supervisor, at 231-992-5270 or visit the Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr, under "Go-Get Outdoors."
