The Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center at the Oden State Fish Hatchery is hosting a special fishing program for children, ages 5 to 16, each Tuesday afternoon in July.
"We're hoping a lot of area youngsters and families on vacation will join us for 'Brown Trout Tuesdays' at our Big Fish Pond," said Interpreter Maureen Jacobs. "Our friendly staff will be conducting four half-hour catch-and-release fishing sessions from 3 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon."
The program is free and all equipment is provided, but Jacobs said space is limited, so preregistration is required to fish. To register, call the visitor center at (231) 348-0998.
The Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and is located on US-31 about one-half mile west of Oden and approximately six miles east of Petoskey. Guided tours of the Oden State Fish Hatchery, which last 1 to 1.5 hours, take place daily. Visitors are encouraged to call ahead for tour times and other program information.
