The Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center, located next to William Mitchell State Park in Cadillac, will host activities to honor National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday, Sept. 22.
On that day, the center will host archery range target shooting from noon until 2 p.m., laser shot shooting simulations from 3 to 5 p.m. and pellet gun range target shooting from 6 to 8 p.m. The activities are geared toward everyone, however; the activities are not recommended for very young children.
The center also will feature many exhibits and displays about hunting and fishing. The gift shop located in the center also will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
National Hunting and Fishing Day was first proclaimed by President Richard Nixon in 1972. Established on the fourth Saturday in September, National Hunting and Fishing Day is set aside as a way to recognize the contributions of sportsmen and women to the conservation, management and protection of natural resources.
