Charles Mears State Park will host a "GO-Get Outdoors" Fall Festival on Sept. 29, featuring trick-or-treating, decorated campsites, nature programs and fall activities, the Department of Natural Resources announced today.
The program begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and includes a pumpkin carving contest, trick-or- treating, a costume contest, hayrides, ghost stories around the campfire and judging for the best decorated campsite. The final activity of the day will be held at 10 p.m., when campers and the general public are invited to attend a star gazing program presented by Park Supervisor Jim Gallie at the Mears State Park pavilion.
"This is our first year holding this event," Gallie said. "We are hoping that the event will encourage people to come out to the park and enjoy Michigan's beautiful fall camping season."
Mears State Park is located at 400 West Lowell St. in Pentwater. For camping reservation call 800-44-PARKS or reserve online at: www.midnrreservations.com. For more information about the event or the park call 231-869-2051.
