The Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center at the Oden State Fish Hatchery welcomes youngsters in grades 3 through 8 to participate in the center's third annual youth fishing clinic, Saturday, May 3, from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The clinic is cosponsored by the Department of Natural Resources and the Miller Van Winkle Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
During the clinic, participants will rotate through eight outdoor learning stations on fishing including a catch-and-release fishing station. All materials and equipment are provided. The program is free of charge and includes a hot dog lunch and raffle. Youngsters are reminded to dress for the weather. Parents are required to preregister their children by calling Maureen Jacobs, the Visitor Center interpreter, at (231) 348-0998.
On Memorial Day Weekend, the Michigan Fisheries Visitor Center reopens for the summer seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering daily tours of the Oden State Fish Hatchery and weekly nature programs. The Visitor Center is located on US-31, in Oden, about five miles east of Petoskey.
