Major reconstruction of Hwy. 36 from White Bear Avenue to Century Avenue (Cty. Rd. 120) in North St. Paul this year will necessitate re-routing a portion of the Gateway State Trail onto city streets.
Users of the Gateway Trail will need to follow a detour from First Street to Henry Street in North Saint Paul. The detour will be signed and marked along its entire route. A map showing the detour is on the Gateway Trail page of the DNR Website. The re-route is expected to go into effect on or about April 13.
The detour will add about half a mile to the trail distance. For pedestrians who use the trail, the detour follows Seventh Avenue through the North St. Paul business district. The bicycle detour follows Helen Street, Fourth Avenue and Henry Street.
The Gateway Trail is a 20-mile paved trail for non-motorized use that goes from St Paul, near the Capitol, to Pine Point Park in Washington County.
