Be among the first to see artwork that will be used on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) 2008 Trout and Salmon stamp next month in St. Paul.
A panel of judges will select artwork for the 2008 stamp Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. on the sixth floor of DNR headquarters, 500 Lafayette Road in St. Paul. The public is invited to view the judging and finalist entries.
“This is a unique opportunity to view some great wildlife art and watch the selection process,” said Mark Ebbers, DNR trout and salmon program consultant. “We encourage anglers, wildlife art enthusiasts and kids to attend the event.”
The DNR, which conducts the annual stamp contest, offers no prizes. The winner, however, retains print reproduction rights to the work, which is usually reproduced as a limited-edition wildlife print.
The Minnesota Trout and Salmon Stamp is required for those who fish in designated trout streams, designated trout lakes, Lake Superior, or who possess trout or salmon. They must also purchase a regular Minnesota fishing license.
The DNR sells approximately 97,000 stamps every year for $8.50 each, Ebbers said. He said proceeds are used for trout and salmon habitat improvement and stocking programs for streams and lakes.
