The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will close the southern two-thirds of Moose Pool in the Moose Willow Wildlife Management Area (WMA) to waterfowl hunting and trespassing during the upcoming waterfowl season.
The remainder of the WMA will be open to waterfowl hunting. The closed area will be signed and visible from the water. A map of the closed area will be posted at the landing.
“The closure will give ducks and geese a place of refuge during the waterfowl season,” said David Dickey, DNR Aitkin area wildlife manager.
Generally, WMAs are open to hunting during established seasons. Boats, decoys and other equipment must not be left unattended overnight. Temporary waterfowl blinds are allowed, but must be removed each day at the close of hunting hours.
Duck season opens Sept. 29. For information on waterfowl seasons and regulations, visit the DNR Web site at www.mndnr.gov.
