The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be conducting an open water creel survey on Rush and Little McDonald lakes, both located in Otter Tail County, from the fishing opener, May 10 through Sept. 30.
Anglers are advised that a DNR creel clerk will likely approach them while fishing on these two lakes throughout the summer. Anglers will be asked to participate in the survey by answering questions and allowing the creel clerk to measure some of the fish they have caught. The interview process takes only a few minutes and the information provided will help DNR Fisheries staff with future fish management on these lakes.
Creel surveys are conducted to gather information on overall angling pressure and angler harvest, and release and catch rates of various fish species. A creel survey was previously conducted on Little McDonald Lake in 1992. This will be the first creel survey for Rush Lake.
