Inland walleye fishing is closed. The inland season for walleye, pike, and musky will re-open on April 26th. Walleye fishing is open year-round in the Lower Peninsula Great Lakes, Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River, and the Detroit River. Ice conditions around the southern sections of the Lower Peninsula are starting to deteriorate and may no longer be safe. All anglers need to use extreme caution this time of year as late ice can be extremely dangerous...

A combination of approximately 600-800 canvasback and redhead ducks have turned up dead along the St. Clair River and Lake St. Clair shorelines, according to the Department of Natural Resources. Disease surveillance and monitoring efforts by the Department of Natural Resources during the 2007 white-tailed deer hunting season showed that the prevalence rate for bovine tuberculosis (TB) dropped to 1.4 percent in Deer Management Unit 452. Anglers are reminded that ice shanties placed upon waters in the southern half of the Lower Peninsula should have been removed by March 1st. In all areas of the state, a shanty must be removed if ice conditions become unsafe, regardless of the date. The new 2008 fishing licenses went on sale March 1st. Copies of the 2008 Michigan Fishing Guide and the Inland Trout and Salmon Guide are now available where licenses are sold...
