You and your buddies plan a ice fishing trip somewhere and call ahead and reserve a fish house for the day. With anticipation, your group arrives on time to meet the guide at the bait shop and it is learned the house isn't ready for 15 more minutes. Gulp vs. Live Bait - A Fishing Guides Observation - I believe in giving everything a fair chance especially when it involves fishing strategy. I've been around long enough to sample and test various scented baits or spray applications throughout the years with varying success. Fish Formula, Chummin' Rub, Berkely Strike and of course Power Bait to name a few. Now there is Gulp! I've messed with it for 2-3 yrs and I am, as of now, not convinced that it is as good as live bait - false advertising?

Looking For Walleye? Try the Weeds - Like many "opener" fishing excursions, the majority of anglers I observed were trying shallow water probably somewhere between 5-12 ft deep and with some success. At least for my boat, last Saturday pushed us into a couple of different depth ranges. Now that I think of it, we didn't even fish shallower than 19 ft. The majority of the fish we boated were pulled out of...

I had it all planned out--start shallow and work deeper. Turns out, most of the fish my clients and I caught were in small groups hanging around the 19-30 ft range--so I did the opposite...

I like to fish for a variety of reasons and frankly for me fishing has turned more into a sickness or disease. If I don't fish for even 3 or 4 days for some reason, I simply start to get grouchy. Is there a prescription for that? I've tried to question myself and wonder why I get that way..

It's no big secret or new information as far as spring crappie fishing is concerned. I just was thinking on the way home the other day that I really haven't observed many kids out fishing yet. Why is that?

Fishing Guides - It happened again this week, I had to turn down another fishing trip because I was already booked the first week in August. How does an angler avoid that situation? What's the best way to plan a guided fishing trip? There are a lot of factors, but the number one factor is to plan early so you don't miss the boat!

Panfish During Late Ice - The rule for panfish this winter, at least for me and my clients, has been to fish shallower than "normal". Meaning those deep holes ( 30-40 ft) that usually produce nice quantities of nice panfish did not produce on most of my "go to" lakes. However, the shallow bite (5-15ft) never really died off like it tends to towards mid winter...

Walleye Fishing - I'm putting my head on the chopping block - that is if you're into fishing the almighty Redtail minnow. It is amazing to me how many anglers rely and depend on Redtails as a staple bait to catch walleye summer or fall. Even many walleye fishing guides I know are...
