Even the Smallest of Fish Like a Bluegill Can Create the Biggest of Smiles on Anglers - I'm not trying to convince anyone that catching a bluegill is like fighting pike or bass, but those of us who appreciate a bobber popping the water have nothing to apologize for. ..

Panfish During Late Ice - The rule for panfish this winter, at least for me and my clients, has been to fish shallower than "normal". Meaning those deep holes ( 30-40 ft) that usually produce nice quantities of nice panfish did not produce on most of my "go to" lakes. However, the shallow bite (5-15ft) never really died off like it tends to towards mid winter...

BWCA Guided Canoe and Fishing Trip - Next morning we all went fishing and even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile or so I’m told, but the walleyes really bit. It got too easy so we quit. Back at camp, fresh walleye for breakfast and the leftovers made nice sandwiches for lunch.

March Perch and Sunfish in Minnesota - Red eared sunfish seem like a good omen to me when I’m fishing. I like the bright color and the flash of red slashed across their face. Red ears school and so do crappies but red ears schools don’t swim off. You hit one; you’re into it until you’re done. They may be small, but they smack bait. I like that....

Minnesota Crappie Fishing Report - I fish enough walleye during the week, so a good crappie fishing bite is "good game" for me. In the Walker Minnesota area, crappie fishing is hot and crappies are ready to be caught...

You ever get the chance you should watch a flock of turkeys work over a patch of woods. They glean the forest floor of anything from grouse eggs when in season, to snakes. Acorns, insects, berries or seeds are on their roving menu plan...

We had an above average day. A mother father daughter trio hit the tri-fecta on some fine looking sunfish. Twenty per is the limit and they kept forty two which is well shy, but plenty. Dad not only paid me, but tossed in a nice tip. Smiles all around...

We left civilization on a belly full of donuts and coffee. The blacktop turned into gravel and eventually the GPS said we had arrived at our destination. That just meant the closest grid coordinates we could get to an ancient set of tracks...

The perch was not what I set out to catch. As it turned out, to my recall, probably the best perch fishing I ever had. I was bragging all week about my new found walleye Mecca, so in an attempt to show off my daytime walleye fishing expertise, I soughed across the snow, two daughters of eve in tow...

I tend to fish a lot of micro jigs in the springtime. I trim a lot of the fluffy "extra" hair off maribou jigs to minimize shorts strikes from crappies and bluegills. I try and trim them down so the maribou barely extends past the hook. This trimming greatly increases my catch ratio...
