Anglers are starting to catch more panfish. Victoria, Darling and Ida lakes are your best bets. Fish the weedline with a small jig and a waxworm or eurolarvae. Crappie action has been sporadic.

Reno Lake is producing a few sunfish in eight to 10 feet of water. On Lake Geneva, look for sunfish and crappies in the 10- to 12-foot weedbeds just before dark. The bay on Lake Mary is worth noting for sunfish and crappies throughout the day in eight to 12 feet of water. Vertical jigs tipped with Eurolarvae continue to work best here.

Ice is still an average of 30 inches thick on most area lakes. Anglers are catching sunfish and crappies in 10-20 feet of water, depending on the lake. Best bodies of water have been Le homme dieu, Mary, Darling, Victoria and Geneva. Reports of tullibees biting on the south end of Ida.

Lake Mary and Lake Reno are worth noting for crappies and sunfish in 10 to 12 feet of water. On Lake Le Homme Dieu, you’ll find a few good-sized sunfish in 10 to 18 feet of water during lowlight periods of the day. Lakes such as Darling and Miltona are the area’s best bets for crappies in 18 to 22 feet of water. Minnows are working best as the sun sets each day. Tulibee action is improving on the south end of Lake Ida. Look for suspended fish over deep water with small jigging spoons tipped with waxworms turning the majority of fish.

Crappie and sunfish action improved during the past week. Most fish have moved shallow, less than 12 feet, and they seem to be biting best early and late in the day. Lakes such as Ida, Le Homme Dieu, Geneva, Victoria, Darling, and Mary all are producing panfish at a steady pace. These fish are biting on a variety of baits including wax worms, Eurolarvae, and small minnows. The deep hole on Lake Ida continues to provide a few tulibees.

Crappies and sunfish are biting all day on Victoria, Geneva, Le Homme dieu, Ida, Mary and Miltona from 6-18 feet of water. A variety of baits on smaller jigs are all working well.
