The walleye fishing was slower this week in the Brainerd Lakes area. There were still a few walleyes being caught on Gull and Pelican lakes in the evenings. But the bite was sporadic. It seemed that if the fish bit in 14 to 18 feet one evening, then the next night the bite would happen in 28 to 32 feet. There really hasn't been a set pattern to the walleyes. The sunfish, however, have been biting strong on several of the lakes in the area. The best depths have been in 6 to 12 feet. The best action has been in the mornings. Waxworms on small teardrops have been accounting for most of the "gills". The northern pike action was also strong this week. The best lake in the area has been the Whitefish Chain. Good depths for the toothy gators have been in 18 to 24 feet of water. Most of the fish that are being caught have been in the 4 to 8 pound range. The best locations have large cabbage flats that are adjacent to deep water points.

We’ll see you on the ice!
