Sorry, but I wasn't able to make it to the lake last week. I still have the crud, and it's not easy to get rid of. I did chip some ice yesterday, but it was on my driveway. What a change since yesterday! It was 59 degrees yesterday and today it's not going to get out of the 20's. Isn't it beautiful? I plan on getting out this week and what I am hoping is to make a trip to perchville (Winnie). I guess before that happens I better get some other things done. New brochures are on the top of the list, then taxes and then fishing. First I need to kill the cold!!! There is still plenty of ice, so no worries there. The meltdown Saturday and Sunday did take care of a lot of snow, but there still is some snow and plenty of ice time left. If you are new to the area, here is a list of panfish lakes you might want to try. North Long, Round, Nisswa, Margret, Gladstone, Cullen, Hubert and many of the bays on the larger lakes like Gull, Whitefish and Pelican. This is the time of year where all you need is a Vexilar, a box of Eurolarvae, a couple of rods, a bucket, a 2005 license, some shades, a pair of ice spikes, an auger/chisel and a cushion to put of your bucket so your hinder doesn't get sore. I suppose you could go out and buy or rent a portable fish house so you have your shelter and sled in one unit. Go for it!! Anyone interested in buying a fish house for next winter? I have some!! Have a nice week, Walleyedan p.s. Think Turkey!! Courtesy of: Walleyedan's Guide Service and Fish House Rentals walleyedan@brainerd.com 218-839-5598 |

March 18, 2005 Good morning. There wasn't a whole lot to report on this week, so I figured we would give you a little weekend stuff. I am heading over to Aitkin for their sport show tomorrow and will be giving a couple of seminars. Haven't done much of this, but what the heck. I was tempted on making the run over to Mille Lacs yesterday but the report wasn't to promising so I stuck tight. Some small fish are going, but the jumbos aren't happening. We still have 3 feet of ice and I am thankful we didn't get the snow. Spring begins Sunday and I hope that the weather starts to turn around soon. I have been busy getting our new brochure ready for print. We have added a new fisherman to our line-up. Tim Hanske is our latest addition, he is a 21 year old Brainerdite that fishes and fishes and fishes. So we are gearing up and getting ready for open water. I have most of my rental fish houses for sale right now so if you are interested, please call. No boat yet! Tip of the week: Stop by the baitshop (S&W) and check out the antique minnow bucket collection. Steve Fritzke will be displaying his antique fishing memorabilia at the shop throughout the year so check in and see his collection. Just got off the lake a couple of hours ago and the action was pretty steady. We caught sunnies and about a half dozen bass. I had a father/son out that were staying at Grand View Lodge and my daughters decided they were up for a little fishing also. We caught our fish in about 15 feet of water on Eurolarvae and small ice flies. The schools were on the move, but when they were in the vicinity they seemed to be pretty hungry. Thank goodness for Vexilars!! The meltdown is on, so it's pretty hard to say how long this ice is going to hang in there. We had about 3 feet on Gull this morning and we were still able to get on with the pick-up. I have heard a few other good reports from area lakes such as Round, South Long, Hubert and Mission. The Sport Show in Aitkin went well, and for my first seminar I was told I did well. I have got word that a new Triton is going to be ordered and that makes me feel pretty darn good. I was into Reeds checking out electronics and Mr. Johnson told me that the Lowrance 110 is the way to go, we'll have to see what Mrs. Eigen has to say about that!! The trips are starting to come in, and with the soaring gas prices we think it will be a year that Minnesotans might stay a little closer to home and plan their vacation here in the Brainerd/Baxter area. Have a good, Good Friday and a Happy Easter!! Tip of the week: The Minneapolis Sport Show starts next Tuesday!! Good morning. The snow flurries are coming down here and there and the temperature reads about 30 degrees. What do you think about that? Actually I think it is fine, that way I can get more of my "list" taken care of. With only 18 days before opener, I have to keep things rolling!! I still haven't seen my new boat, but it is expected any day. I was out with the whole fam damily (including the mo-in-law) on Sunday and we caught a nice batch of crappies. It was a beauty day and we caught quite a few fish, including some rocky's, 1 sunny, about a 1/2 dozen largemouth and a northern (pike). The biggest crappie got away, my mo-in-law had a huge one right up to the dock before it shook off!! It would have went back, but a picture would have been nice. We were on the south end of Gull Lake and we were using plastic baits tipped with crappie minnows. I ate so much that night I was really close to popping!!! Now that the weather has taken a nose dive, I think the fish will take a while to respond up in the shallows. You should still be able to find them, but it's always easier when they are up in the shallow water. I hope all of you are getting as excited as me with the opener just around the corner. I did a little shpeel for the Mid-Minnesota Builders Association last night at Ernies and after the nerves settled a bit, things went well. Tip of the week: It may look silly, but bring your net with on your next crappie trip. I wish I would have had one on Sunday!! We opened er up!! I fished Saturday with Bill Sherck and Cy the camera guy from Minnesota Bound. Thanks Ron for letting them come on up. We had a good time and they think they have some nice footage for their show. I picked the guys up at 6:30 Saturday a.m. near Rocky Point on Gull Lake. The weather was a lot nicer than I had imagined. We didn't score on our first spot, but did catch a few "doinks" on spot #2 and #3. Luckily enough Cy had the camera rolling when we boated most of our fish. We caught our fish on shiners in 14-20 feet of water on the north end of Gull. I don't fish Sunday's, but Monday was good (on North Long). We caught some nice fish and my clients were excited to eat them. We were using both redtails and shiners on Monday and caught our fish in 18 feet of water. Today was another off day, and tomorrow is a funeral day. The calendar does look like it's quite full, but of course we have room for you!! Besides Gull and North Long, Pelican has been producing some nice walleyes. The crappies continue to go strong in many areas. Water temp is about 54 degrees and the wind has been out of the southeast. Tip of the week: Children 10 and under need to wear life jackets at all times on the water. Have a nice week and season, Walleyedan Courtesy of: Walleyedan's Guide Service and Fish House Rentals walleyedan@brainerd.com 218-839-5598 |

The moon is full and I am beat!! And I'm not beat because I've been out trolling raps at night, I don't get into that because I fish almost all day everyday. We (Tim Edinger, Mr. Holiday and I) filmed for the first episode of "Reel Trips with Walleyedan". It was awesome. We started out in search of walleye's, but we didn't fair to well. So we decided to catch some fish. We slid up into some shallow water and caught some beautiful crappies. It was nice to be able to get some good footage for my first ever TV episode. Thanks Trent, Tony, Tim and Blaine, it was work but fun work. The walleye action has been on one day and off the next. Hopefully tomorrow is on!! Butch and I fished Mille Lacs last night and caught two walleyes between the two boats. We both felt very bad because the people were from out of the country, but what the heck do you do? The water temperature was at 60 degrees today and I think once we get some stable weather things are going to be smokin'!! Look for our show on Charter Mainstreet in late June, it will be interesting. Tip of the week: Have a back up plan!! I'm glad we did today.
