See ya May!! I have fished almost everyday since opener and yes, my back is burning!! Sure you can feel sorry for me if you want. I have fished Gull, Round, North Long, Pelican, Edward, Mille Lacs, Whitefish and Upper Hay so far. None have been exceptional, but we have had some fun. With all the inconsistent weather, the fish are a bit confused. Today was nice and hopefully with another day or two of this warm air, things will start cooking out on the water. We have had our best luck using redtails. Some like them mouth hooked, but the tail hooking seems to still be best on most occasions. The water surface temperature on Gull today was about 60 degrees and I had one of the easiest, most kick-back trips I'll probably ever have. I fished with a client that was just happy to be out in my new Triton on a beautiful spring day in the Brainerd area. We fished for about an hour during our 6 hour trip (tour). It was a nice break. Gull has been putting out some small walleyes in 12-32 feet. Jigs tipped with shiners and Rigs tipped with redtails have been the ticket. If you are fishing a Lindy Rig, try a yellow 3/8 ounce walking sinker. Don't know where I'm going tomorrow, but I hope they are biting.

Tip of the week: If you want to fish without the twist in your fishing line, try Berkley Fireline.

Catch ya later,
Walleyedan

Welcome to the Brainerd Rainforest! It's beautiful and the lakes are filling up a bit, but a few days of sunshine would definitely be welcome about now. Fishing is good. We have been to many different lakes and the "bite" is still not very consistent. The walleyes are biting when they want to (what's new!). Northerns are becoming a little more aggressive along the weedlines and the crappies are still feasting in the shallows. We have been on Gull, North Long, Mille Lacs, Round and Whitefish since I last checked in with you. I had a fun trip on Mille Lacs yesterday with Dick, Ron and Doug. We started out with walleyes on the mind and finished up with smallies on the line!! It was a blast!! Most of our fish were about 17-19 inches. I really enjoyed that trip!! We saw a musky and talked with another fisherman that saw a few. Back at it tomorrow and I'm not sure where I'm going quite yet. So far we have all been quite busy and we are hoping and praying that we will eventually get out of this Rainforest weather pattern. Here is a picture of one of our smallies from the other day.

Tip of the week: Don't try to open a sporting goods store in the Brainerd/Baxter area!!

Have a nice week,

Walleyedan

What a beautiful day. Sunday is family day for Walleyedan, so I wasn't on the water but that didn't stop me from frying my back. I cleaned up the boat in preparation for another busy week, but I forgot to put sunscreen on. I'm sure I'll be paying for it tonight while I try to sleep. Last week was pretty good overall. We fished Mille Lacs a couple of times, North Long a couple of times and Gull. The water is finally over 65 degrees and the fish are becoming more active. The walleye bite is still not an everyday deal. One day it's hot and the next it's not. We got into the smallies on Mille Lacs one day last week and that was a blast. Our next trip to Mille Lacs produced a few smallies, and one nice 43 inch musky (a pretty sweet bonus). Gull continues to put out the numbers of walleyes, but they are little buggers. There is still not a very awesome pattern, but at least when you find them they seem to bite. Redtails and leeches are both effective right now. It sounds like we are going to get some more moisture tomorrow and Tuesday (imagine that). But then it looks like we are in store for a nice second half of the week. The Triton is sure getting put to the test and I am pretty darn pleased with how it fishes. We are going to do our second filming this weekend at the annual Camp Confidence Fishing Classic. I think it's going to be Ron Fick, Shelley Eigen and myself. I hope we can round up Jingles on Saturday, she's probably getting hungry about now. The weigh-in is at 2:00 p.m. at Craguns Resort on Gull Lake. I don't know what my strategy is going to be, but I'm hoping we can produce in front of the camera. It sounds like our first show should be airing on Charter Mainstreet sometime around the end of June (I'll keep you posted).

Tip of the week: Take your Dad fishing (Fathers Day is on the way)!! If your Dad fishes too much as it is, send him to the Spa!!

Have a nice week and take a day at a time,

Walleyedan

The walleye's are smacking the chubs!! Gull and North Long are happening right now. This starts the "bite"!! We have had back to back to back good trips and I think tomorrow might be another. The Cass wine crew did very well on Monday and Kent form Zumbrota smashed them today. Oh, I almost forgot about Don's rock!! He did land a nice one and kept his tip up!! Dave, Dave and Don thanks for the trip and I hope the fish was tasty!! We have been catching our fish on redtails in 14-27 feet depending on the spot you are fishing. We didn't think there were any walleyes left in Gull, we were way wrong!! Bass and pike are munching as well!! Tim Edinger's boat boated a 46 inch ski the other day on Mille Lacs and saw another 50 plus incher get caught. If you want muskies, this is the time!! Let's go!!

Tip of the week: Go Twins!!

Have a good week,

Walleyedan
