BRAINERD LAKES AREA
The rainy weather did it’s best to slow the walleye fishing this last week in the Brainerd Lakes area, but fishermen willing to brave the elements were still rewarded with a great walleye bite. The majority of fish that wanted to bite were found in 35-40 feet of water. The best baits were either jigs tipped with shiners or Lindy rigs tipped with creek chubs. The bass fishing has slowed. The best bet for bass has been in the afternoon, once the water has a chance to warm. The muskie reports for Millie Lacs are still good. With the weatherman’s forecast, this should be a good week for fishing.

CROSSLAKE
Walleye bite best on Pelican and Whitefish in 25-34 feet of water. A jig or Lindy rig tipped with a redtail working best. Bigger minnows and sucker minnows the ticket. Excellent bass and pike bite in the weeds while trolling or throwing spinnerbaits. Crappies suspended in 12 feet off of points, some shallower.

Holiday of Cross Lake, Lee (218-692-2708)

NISSWA
Walleye limits common on Gull Lake and Pelican Lake. Active fish scattered at various depths on Gull. Best results on a Lindy rig and redtail chub worked slowly in 13-28 feet. On Pelican the walleyes along the deep weedlines from 26-32 feet. Redtails the ticket on Pelican as well.

BRAINERD LAKES AREA
The walleye fishing is steady in the Brainerd Lakes area. The larger fish are being caught on Upper Whitefish and North Long Lake. Gull is still producing an occasional nice fish, but the majority have been on the smaller side. Redtails, or creek chubs, tipped on the end of a Lindy rig have been producing the most fish. There have been some fantastic reports from Mille Lacs Lake. The main lake flats have been really kicking out some big fish during the day. The bass fishing has slowed, but there has been some good crappie fishing on Hubert and North Long. Better head to the lakes when you can, winter is coming!

CROSSLAKE
Walleyes are roaming in 30 feet of water. Try a jig/redtail or shiner minnow worked very slowly. Best lakes are Whitefish, Pelican and Gull. Walleye bite starting to pick up on Fox Lake. Pike and bass are still at the weedline on area lakes.

BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA

Redtail minnows have provided consistent walleye action on Gull Lake in 20 to 30 feet of water. Minnows also are turning walleyes in shallower water (15 to 20 feet) on North Long Lake, Pelican Lake, and Whitefish Lake. Panfish, largemouth bass, and northern pike remain active along the 10- to 12- foot weed edges that remain on most lakes.

CROSBY AREA
Spinnerbaits or sucker minnows continue to produce northern pike on Upper Mission Lake, Serpent Lake, and Mitchell Lake. Minnows also have been key for walleyes on Rabbit Lake and Serpent Lake in 20 to 25 feet of water throughout the day. Black Hoof Lake, Clinker Lake, and Perry Lake are the area’s best options for panfish in 10 to 15 feet of water. Opening weekend duck reports varied, although limits were the exception.

The walleye fishing was slower this last week. But it’s still pretty good. The majority of walleyes are being caught in 32-40 feet of water during the day. Evening trollers have been reporting good success after dark in 6-12 feet of water.

The fall walleye bite is going strong with rainbow minnows and golden shiners in 16 to 34 feet of water. Gull Lake continues to provide the best action, with North Long Lake and Pelican Lake kicking out their share of walleyes as well. Crappies are biting in 15 to 20 feet of water on Lake Hubert and North Long during midday hours.

S&W Bait & Tackle (218) 829-7010

Redtails and rainbow minnows are providing consistent walleye action on Rabbit Lake and Pelican Lake in 22 to 28 feet of water. Limits of trout are being caught on Rapalas worked near the surface at the Portsmouth and Pennington pits. Panfish can be had in 12 to 15 feet of water on Serpent Lake and Clinker Lake. Sucker minnows continue to be the best option for northern pike in 12 feet of water on Mitchell Lake and Upper Mission Lake. Duck hunters are starting to see a few bluebills on the bigger bodies of water.

The fall colors are in full bloom in the Brainerd Lakes area. The evenings have been cooler and the larger walleyes have started to bite on the Whitefish Chain. There's been good reports from Pelican as well. Most of the fish are being caught in 35+feet. A jig tipped with a rainbow chub has been a good choice of bait. The walleye are still biting on Gull, but most of the fish have been very small. The bass bite has slowed, but there has been some great crappie action on North Long lake. Look for the crappies to be suspended just off the deep cabbage weeds.

CROSSLAKE
Bass and pike activity is best along the remaining outside weedline. Walleyes biting on Pelican and Whitefish at dusk on large shiner minnows or rainbows. Anglers are using Lindy rigs or jigging. A few walleyes also biting below the dam on Crosslake.

Center Bar and Wilson Bay on Gull Lake are safe bets for walleyes in 17 to 30 feet of water. Rainbow minnows, creek chubs, or shiner minnows have worked well on a jig. North Long Lake and Whitefish Lake are options for walleyes, with minnows, in 20 to 30 feet of water.

CROSBY AREA

Minnows have provided steady walleye action in 14 to 20 feet of water on lakes like Rabbit, Serpent, Horseshoe, Nokay, and Clearwater. The trout bite continues to be decent at Portsmouth Pit and Huntington Pit. Most of these fish are near shore so spoons or Mepps spinners have worked best. Grouse hunters report being "pleasantly surprised" with the number of birds they're seeing. Ducks are scarce although a few more redheads and bluebills showed up earlier this week.
