June shorelines offer success... Hello sportsfans... Welcome, as always, to the latest and greatest here on Lake of the Woods. Some patchy weather and some infrequent patterns have made for a challenging June chase. But, the good news... Yes, we are catching fish... And yes, the shorelines have been the ticket. Anyone that lives remotely close to the midwest, and northern tiers, can attest to the wet and cool weather we've been experiencing with regularity. Odd, isn't it? The only thing consistent about the weather is its inconsistency. So, as goes shoreline fishing, we're very much at the mercy of the current weather patterns in regard to walleye activity. From day to day... Our patterns change. Yes... Another great reason to put yourself aboard a Ballards guided walleye boat. When patterns change rapidly, as is the case right now, it's always nice to be on the lake with someone who is living out there, on a day to day basis. Better lucky than good, but you can't beat experience. That's where our fellas really shine... Gosh, the bite has been about everywhere in the last week to ten days. You name a shoreline on the south shore, and it has held fish during one point in time. Pine... Zippel... Stony... Pine... Zippel... Stony... Those are the three areas that I'm hearing about most often. From day to day the size and numbers vary, but for the most part it has been pretty darn good. Presentation? We're still pulling lots of minnows with those single hook spinners. Some leeches... Some crawlers... But mostly the minnow / spinner combination. What's the last half of June got in store for us? Only Mother Nature can answer that question... Til then, I'm predicting more success on the shorelines, plenty of fresh fish at shore lunch, and many many fish tales to carry us into the sunset.
