The recent cold snap has dropped water temperatures, which in turn, slowed the crappie bite. The key with the colder water is to downsize your presentation. Ice flies tipped with wax worms are working better than minnows. Look to the shallow bays, channels, and harbors to still hold fish, but they aren't as active as last week.

You’ll find a few small crappies and sunfish in the shallow bays, but the bigger crappies have moved deep with the cold weather. A small jig and minnow presentation is your best option, on top of the milfoil, in 14 feet of water.

Walleye reports have been limited. The anglers who have caught a few fish are covering a lot of water with crankbaits in six to eight feet of water. Sucker minnows drifted along the 10- to 12-foot weed edges are producing northern pike. Panfish action has been slow, although the wind and cold has prevented most people from fishing them.
