Walleyes are shallow on Bemidji and Winnie. Plantagenet is picking up. For muskies this weekend, try the same lakes in shallow water.

I just got off Lake Bemidji and am starting to dry out. I pulled a creek chub tail dancer in 7.5' over rocks. Ended up with 3 nice eater walleyes, perch, pike and a 4 pound C&R Muskie. Most people are either pulling rigs or jigging with a minnow right now.

BEMIDJI AREA

Leeches and shiner minnows have been the best baits for walleyes on Lake Bemidji. These fish get most active during the evening hours in seven to 21 feet of water. Minnows also have produced walleyes on Lake Irvine in seven feet of water. Look for northern pike to be cruising the shallow weed edges on most area lakes.

Anglers are starting to run rigs/leeches as deep as 20 feet. Muskie action good up shallow. Anglers report seeing a lot of fish, but on the sluggish side. Reports of 43-, 44-, 50-inchers. Panfish anglers catching fish using waxworms but are tight-lipped on location. Crappies on their beds.

Fishing is going well on Cass Lake. For walleyes, try Buck’s Bar, Windigo Bar or North Cedar Bar in 15-35 feet of water. Reports of northern pike and bigger perch also hitting on Cass Lake. Other good walleye lakes have been Bemidji, Big and Andrusia. Leeches working best.

Walleyes are hitting a jig and shiner minnow in five feet of water on Lake Bemidji. On Three Island Lake, you'll find walleyes in six feet of water with slip bobbers and leeches. The area bluegill bite is going well in shallow water on most small lakes. Numbers of small northern pike are an easy catch on Big Lake and Lake Irvine. Muskie activity has improved along the weed edges of Lake Bemidji with topwater and bucktails working best.
