Ice conditions are worsening because of the warm weather. Perch are biting at Big Lake, Lake Bemidji and Plantagenet in 15-30 feet of water using a medium or large fathead. Walleyes are also biting on Big Lake in the evening and the morning using a glow jig with a shiner.

Crappies and sunfish are biting in 12 to 14 feet of water on many lakes. Sucker minnows and tip-ups are safe bets for northern pike in 12 to 14 feet of water. Lakes such as Bemidji, Turtle River, and Irvine are your best bets. Shiner minnows are producing the few walleyes biting. Lake Plantagenette and Lake Bemidji are giving up a few each evening in 20 to 30 feet of water.

I have been fishing Bemidji on the weekend and catching plenty of Jumbos in 26-31'. Also have seen a few walleyes mixed in. Been using emerald shiners as the bait of choice. Most of the fish have been taken on a set line with a red bleeding bait type hook under a buster bobber. I have been catching them on slender spoons as well. During the cold fronts I have been using a buckshot with a dropper and a half of a minnow. Sometimes they will hit it and other times I think I just call them in to the set lines. Good luck everyone.

Nice perch and walleye action on Lake Winnibigoshish. Action is also picking up on Cass Lake, Pike Bay, Big Birch and Lake Bemidji. Other lakes in the area have been pretty quiet.
