Rabideau Lake continues to produce bluegills and crappies in 12 to 14 feet of water. Look to Gilstead Lake for crappies during the evening hours in 25 feet of water, while Lake Pimushe is a safe bet for bluegills in 12 to 16 feet of water. ThereÕs a shallow panfish bite taking place on Big Lake in less than eight feet of water. Reports from Upper Red Lake have been mixed. The evening hours continue to provide the best numbers in 14 feet of water.

The end of ice fishing season is near. Anglers were using ATVs on area lakes early in the week, but it will be day to day with this warm weather. Perch biting on Blackduck, and Red Lake ice is still good. Shorelines starting to break up on the smaller area lakes.

Ice conditions are changing daily but the panfish action has been the best it's been all year. As long as the ice is safe to walk on look to lakes such as Rabideau, Gilstead, and Pimushe to produce bluegills and crappies in eight to 14 feet of water. The crappie bite on Upper Red Lake also has been very good this week.

Most area lakes are open. Anglers should be able to get out in their boats on the smaller lakes by the weekend. Sunday was the last day for ice anglers on Red Lake. The lake is no longer safe for ice fishing.

Lakes are all ice-free now. Red Lake opened on Sunday. The crappie bite should start on Red soon, try fishing the shoreline breaks from boat. Smaller lakes, such as Gilstad and Rabideau, are producing crappies. Small gypsy jigs and crappies minnows working well.

All lakes are ice-free in this area, and there are crappies starting to show up in the shallow bays on most small lakes. Minnows and jigs are turning crappies on Gilstead Lake and Rabideau Lake in three to six feet of water.

Over the weekend crappie fishing on Red Lake was good with anglers catching limits. Most anglers were using a jig/minnow under a bobber fishing along the shoreline in 4-6 feet. Cold weather has moved crappies and panfish out of the shallows on most area lakes. The bite should turn back on with warmer weather.
