Weekend was slow with the cold and wind. Area ice-out crappie tournament produced some results for the anglers that braved the snow. A few crappies were caught on Red Lake, but no limits. Smaller area lakes, such as Gilstad, produced more action. Warm weather this week should pick up the action on area lakes.

Opener was fair, cold weather. On Sunday the action was better. Walleyes were biting on Blackduck in 10-14 feet of water. Jig/minnow or bobber/leech working well. Crappie bite is good on Red Lake when the water is warm and the wind dies down.

Blackduck Lake is providing the area’s best walleye bite in 10 to 16 feet of water. The evening hours have been best with a jig and minnow or live bait rig and minnow turning the majority of fish. Crappies continue to be caught in shallow water on Gilstead Lake and Lake Rabideau.
