Walleye bite picked up on Blackduck Lake in 10-14 feet with jig/minnow. Lots of smaller fish, but if you work at it, you’ll find some bigger fish. Crappies biting on Gilstad, Rabideau and South Twin in 10-20 feet at the outside weed edge. Grouse hunters seeing a few birds, and some geese and ducks have been seen in the fields.

Walleye bite is picking up on Blackduck Lake. Work a jig/minnow along the weed edge. Duck hunting was better than last year, some success in the fields for geese, ducks on the ponds. Grouse hunting is going well with the leaves falling.

Walleye activity has improved at Blackduck Lake as limits become more common from 10 to 14 feet of water with minnows. Small minnows also are providing steady crappie action in 18 feet of water on Gilstead Lake, South Twin Lake, and Rabideau Lake. Trolling crankbaits continues to be a safe bet for northern pike in the Tamarck River area of Upper Red Lake. Most duck hunters reported a better opening weekend than last year with plenty of geese and mallards to go around.

Fishing is going well on Blackduck Lake in 10-14 feet with a jig/minnow. Big northern pike are being caught on Red Lake. Work the breakline in front of Tamarack River. Grouse hunters doing better this week. Duck hunters having a better season this year than last.

Jerkbaits have produced numbers of good-sized pike in the Tamarack River area of Upper Red Lake. Blackduck Lake is providing the best walleye action. Minnows are the primary bait being used in 10 to 14 feet of water. Scattered reports of suspended crappies are coming from 18 to 20 feet of water on lakes such as South Turtle, Rabideau, and Gilstead. Grouse hunters seem pleasantly surprised with the number of birds they’re seeing and duck hunting has been much better than last year by most accounts.

The few people who continue to fish are catching walleyes on Blackduck Lake in 10 to 14 feet of water. A jig and minnow is working during the afternoon and early evening hours. Bluebills have yet to show up, but there are quite a few ringbills and buffleheads in the area. Grouse hunting has been good and archery hunters have reported seeing bigger bucks this week.
