Walleye fishing has been fair on Blackduck Lake, but most outdoorsmen and women are focusing on the firearms deer opener this weekend. Bow hunters are harvesting some nice deer and reporting seeing a lot of deer. Grouse hunters are out and about having success.

A jig and minnow is working best during the afternoon hours for walleyes on Blackduck Lake. The few people who still have their boats out are catching these fish in 12 to 16 feet of water. An occasional report comes off Upper Red Lake for big northern pike, but crappie action has been slow. Ringbills and mallards are providing waterfowl hunters with some shooting and grouse hunting remains better than most people expected.

Deer registration numbers down slightly from last year. Weighed in several in the 200-pound plus mark. Buck to doe ratio around 50-50 with the use of bonus tags. Deer movement seemed to be suppressed by the warm temperatures and bluebird days.

Most hunters report deer moving better second weekend than first weekend. Registered about 600-700 deer.
