Anglers are open water fishing from shore on Minnewaska. Water temps are still a little cool. Sunfish and crappies biting near the Marina in 4-5 feet of water. On the Glenwood end, crappies hitting at Inlet Creek by the Fish Hatchery in 6-7 feet. A good sign is the shiner minnows are moving in. The Starbuck Marina on Lake Minnewaska is free of ice, but the panfish have yet to show up. Water temperatures have gone up daily so expect to find crappies in the shallows by this weekend. There's still some floating ice on the main portion of Minnewaska and the small lakes are open. Minnewaska Bait and Tackle (320) 239-2239 Courtesy of Outdoor News |

Ice is out on Minnewaska and the crappies are biting. Best action is at Starbuck Marina in 2-3 feet of water all day long. Try small jigs and crappie minnows with a small float. Cast slowly and retrieve near the dock area. Anglers report they can’t keep the bass from hitting their crappie baits there. Some are catching crappies via boat at the Fish Hatchery after dark using lighted bobbers in 3 feet. Good shore fishing results on the north end of Pocket Lake right off of County Road 4. The crappies have moved into the Starbuck Marina on Lake Minnewaska. These fish are biting in less then four feet of water, near the docks, throughout the day. After dark, there's a decent crappie bite at the inlet creek near the Fish Hatchery on Minnewaska. The north end of Pocket Lake is kicking out numbers of crappies, but these fish have been smaller. Crappie bite is excellent on Minnewaska at the Starbuck Marina. Small jigs and crappie minnows working best from shore. On the Glenwood end, boat anglers are catching crappies and sunfish at the Fish Hatchery. Sunfish are starting to hit small leeches and waxworms. Good results also reported from the north end of Pocket Lake. Minnewaska Bait, Larry Jensen, Hwy 29 near the Starbuck Marina (320-239-2239) Courtesy of Outdoors Weekly |

Starbuck Marina on Lake Minnewaska continues to produce crappies. Stay tight to the docks with minnows in less than five feet of water. Minnewaska Bait and Tackle (320) 239-2239 Courtesy of Outdoor News |

Cold weather hasn’t slowed down the panfish and crappie bite on Minnewaska. At the Starbuck Marina, anglers are catching numerous fish right off the docks. A jig and a crappie minnow is best for crappies, and sunfish are hitting small leeches or waxworms. On the Glenwood end by the Fish Hatchery, there are many boats catching fish using the same presentations. The channel catfish action is hot on the Chippewa River by Benson. Fresh chicken liver or nightcrawlers are working best. The river is high, which will be good when the regular walleye season opens.
