The walleye bite continues sporadic in the Detroit Lakes area. There are fish being caught but you have to work at it a bit. Lindy rigs and crawlers and leeches or spinners are starting to produce a little better than jigs and minnows but that can change from day to day! The deep weed edges out to 30 feet have been the best areas to concentrate on. Round, Sallie, Lizzie, Little Bemidji, Elbow, Juggler, Pickerel, Cotton, Island and Shell lakes are producing some walleyes. Ottertail Lake is starting to pick up using rigs and crawlers in 15-19 feet along the breaks and humps. The largemouth bass fishing remains good. Early morning topwater lures are working and later in the day jigs and tubes off the deep breaks and points are turning good numbers of fish. The crappies continue to be found off the deep cabbage as well as the bigger bluegills. Northern pike fishing is also picking up on jigs and minnows along the deep water weeds. Catching walleyes is not impossible, but it does involve more work. Spinner rigs and crawlers are working best on the deep weed edges out to about 30 feet on Round Lake, Lake Sallie, Elbow Lake, Juggler Lake, Cotton Lake, Shell Lake, and Island Lake. Bass fishing remains good during the morning and evening hours on most lakes. Topwaters, tubes, and jigs are turning bigger fish. Look for crappies and bluegills off the deep cabbage; a large minnow and jig should produce northern pike along the weeds. The walleye bite is still sporadic but the good news is the next 5-7 days is calling for stable weather and that could kick the walleyes into high gear! There are a few fish going on Big Cormorant, Lida, Lizzie, Floyd, Cotton, Shell, Height of Land, Island, Little Bemidji, Sallie, Elbow and Round. Jigs and minnows are still turning some fish as are Lindy rigs and leeches/crawlers, along with spinners. Look to the sharp breaks and deep weedlines. The largemouth bass bite continues excellent. Jig and pig, tubes, plastic worms, spinnerbaits are all producing fish. The deep weed edges and the inside weedlines along with fishing the docks will all produce. Bigger gills are going on the deep cabbage along with crappies. The bigger northerns are along the deep weeds and the muskie bite is starting to heat up on Detroit and Pelican lakes. The walleye bite is picking up just a bit which is good news. They’re not jumping in the boat but they are worth your effort. Jigs and minnows have been the ticket this past week and jigs and leeches are also working. Concentrate your efforts on the mid lake humps and you should produce some fish. If it’s cloudy and windy they are up in 15-18 feet. If sunny look for those fish out in 22-30 feet. Big Cormorant, Lizzie, White Earth, Strawberry, Lida, Island, Round, Many Point and Big Detroit are all kicking out a few fish. The bigger bluegills are out on the deepwater cabbage and weedlines and you will find the crappies there also. Bass fishing remains strong in the area with deep weedlines and deep weedy humps producing best with plastic worms or tubes. Northern pike action is picking up on area lakes. Trolling spinners with sucker minnows has produced. Go deeper for the bigger fish. Muskie action continues to pick up on Pelican, Beers and Detroit lakes.
