The walleyes continue to be elusive in the Detroit Lakes area. If you like to fish after dark you will have your best success in this hot weather trolling Rapala shad raps across some of the shallow water flats on area lakes. During the day don’t be afraid to fish up in the thick weeds and also down deep. What Dick is saying is... give it everything you’ve got! The good news is the bite should start to pickup soon. Pelican, Detroit, Big Cormorant, Strawberry, White Earth, Shell, Cotton and Island lakes are good bets. Getting some nice crappies and bluegills right up on top of the sunken islands in 5-7 feet in the middle of the day on Lindy Little Nipper jigs and 2-inch Thumpin’ grub plastic tails. The largemouth bass bite continues excellent in shallow or out on the deep weed edges using plastics. Lots of muskie follows on Detroit and Pelican lakes. The walleye fishing is still slow at best. Anglers are picking up a few fish trolling shad raps at night on Big Cormorant. Your best bet is White Earth Lake where the walleye bite is a little more consistent. Jigs and minnow are turning most of the fish. Northern pike fishing has picked up on Lake Melissa but remember that any pike 24 inches or more has to be put back right away. Spinners and large sucker minnows and jig and minnows are also producing fish along the deep weedlines. Muskie action is picking up on Big Detroit and Pelican on black bucktails. The largemouth bass fishing continues good on all area lakes fishing plastics on the deep weedlines and humps. The larger sunfish and crappies can also be found out in those same areas. Walleye fishing is slow at best. A few fish are being taken with Shad Raps on Big Cormorant Lake after dark. Jigs and minnows have turned an occasional walleye on White Earth Lake. Spinners and large sucker minnows have turned northern pike along the deep weedlines of Lake Melissa. Black bucktails are the best bet for muskies on Big Detroit Lake and Pelican Lake. Work the deep humps and weedlines with plastics on most lakes for largemouth bass. There have been some panfish caught in these areas as well. Dick Beardsley's Guide Service www.fishingscene.com |

A jig and minnow started producing walleyes on the sharp breaks and deep weedlines of Big Cormorant Lake, Pelican Lake, White Earth Lake, Elbow Lake, Lida Lake, Lake Lizzie, and Cotton Lake. Bass fishing remains good on all lakes with plastic worms and tubes turning the majority of fish. Crappie and bluegill can be found on the deep humps of most lakes as well. Last week the Detroit Lakes area received 4-6 inches of rain in the area so lake levels are up. The walleye bite continues to slowly get better. Jigs and minnows are turning a majority of the fish for Dick Beardsley’s clients. The midlake humps and sharp breaks seem to be producing the most fish. White Earth, Big Toad, Shell, Elbow, Strawberry, Pelican and Cotton are kicking out a few fish. Cloudy, windy days seem to be the days when the bite is best. Bluegills and crappies continue to be caught on area lakes along the deep cabbage on Lindy Little Nipper jigs and plastic tails. The largemouth bass bite continues excellent fishing plastics in the deep edge of the weeds on all area lakes. The northern bite has slowed a bit. Muskies are continuing to be seen more than caught on Detroit and Pelican lakes. Bucktail spinners are working the best. Dick Beardsley’s Guide Service (218-846-9230) Courtesy of Outdoors Weekly |

A jig and minnow is now the best bet for walleyes as are cloud-covered and windy days. Work the mid-lake humps and sharp breaks on lakes such as White Earth, Big Toad, Shell, Elbow, Strawberry, Pelican, and Cotton. Bluegills and crappies continue to be caught on area lakes with jigs and plastic tails. Largemouth bass action continues to be excellent with plastics on the deep weed edges of most lakes. Northern pike activity is limited, but bucktail spinners are producing muskies on Pelican and Detroit Lake. Dick Beardsley's Guide Service www.fishingscene.com Courtesy of Outdoor News |
