Hard to believe that September is now here! That should be good news to anglers. The water temps continue to cool into the mid to upper 60’s and the walleye bite continues to slowly pick up. Jigs and minnows are turning most of the fish off the sharp breaks. Big Cormorant, Lida, Pelican, White Earth, Elbow, Many Point, Toad, Ottertail and Island are your best bets. The bass fishing continues at a good pace with plastics turning the most fish. Crappies and bluegills are being caught in and along the deep cabbage. Muskie action is picking up on Detroit and Pelican. Dick Beardsley’s Guide Service (218-846-9230) Courtesy of Outdoors Weekly |

Jigs tipped with minnows are turning the majority of walleyes off the sharp breaks of Big Cormorant Lake, Lake Lida, Pelican Lake, Many Point Lake, Toad Lake, and Elbow Lake. The bite often peaks early and late in the day. Bass fishing continues to be impressive in the area with plastics producing bigger fish. Look for crappies and bluegills in or around deep cabbage beds. Muskie reports have improved on Pelican Lake and Detroit Lake. The walleye bite continues slow for the most part on area lakes. A few fish are coming out of Big Cormorant in the late evening and after dark. Pelican, Detroit, Cotton, White Earth, Elbow, Strawberry, Big Toad, Lizzie, Lida and Melissa are all kicking out a few fish but you have to work at it. Jigs and minnows are producing most of the fish. Once the water temps start to make more of a drop the bite should really pick up. Bass fishing with plastics is still going strong on all area lakes. Look for the panfish to be around the greenest weeds you can find. Don’t be afraid to look shallow. The muskie bite still holding its own on Detroit, Pelican and Beers lakes. A few walleyes have been caught after dark on Big Cormorant Lake. Lakes such as Pelican, Cotton, Detroit, White Earth, Strawberry, and Elbow also are producing a few fish on a jig and minnow. Bass fishing with plastics is going strong on all lakes and there is panfish being caught around the greenest weeds you can find. The muskie bite is holding its own on Detroit Lake, Pelican Lake, and Beers Lake. Dick Beardsley's Guide Service www.fishingscene.com |

The walleye bite is starting to pick up on area lakes. The water temps are cooling nicely and jigs and minnows are turning the most fish now. Pelican, Detroit, Lida, Lizzie, Strawberry, Cotton, Big Cormorant, Island, White Earth and Big Toad are all starting to turn some fish. The panfish bite continues good, look for those fish in the greenest weeds you can find. Bass fishing continues excellent in the area fishing topwater or plastics. On a hunting note, a huge black bear was taken by Mike Summers of Vergas in Becker County last week. It weighed in at over 500 pounds! Dick Beardsley’s Guide Service (218-846-9230) |

A jig and minnow is producing better numbers of walleyes this week than last on lakes such as Pelican, Lida, Lizzie, Strawberry, Cotton, and Big Toad. Panfish are being caught on most lakes in areas that still offer green weeds that lie in 10 to 12 feet of water. Topwater and plastic presentations continue to produce numbers of largemouth bass from area lakes. Dick Beardsley's Guide Service www.fishingscene.com Outdoor News |

Crappie and sunfish action still is going strong on most lakes in 12 feet of water. Northern pike and largemouth bass are relating to what's left of most green weedlines and they can be had on artificial and live bait offerings. Walleyes seem to prefer a jig and minnow combination at this point, with lakes such as Pelican, Lida, Lizzie, Floyd, Big Cormorant, Cotton, Big Toad, and Strawberry providing the best results.
