Jigs and minnows are turning the most walleyes now. Pelican, Detroit, Lida, Lizzie, Strawberry, Cotton, Big Cormorant, Island, White Earth and Big Toad are all starting to turn some fish. Bass fishing continues excellent in the area fishing topwater or plastics.

The walleye bite is going strong now on many area lakes. Jigs and minnows have been the ticket on sharp breaks and along the green weedlines. The greener the weeds the better. Lida, Lizzie, Pelican, Detroit, Melissa, Big Cormorant, Island, Strawberry, White Earth, Tullibee, Cotton and Big Toad are all worth a trip out on the water. There are not many folks out fishing now so you should have the lakes to yourself most of the time. Muskie action is heating up on Detroit and Pelican as the fish are getting ready for winter. The largemouth bass continues steady in the area with jigs and plastics working well. The duck hunting opener was fair here in the DL area but that could really improve by this weekend as very cold and snowy weather is forecasted for this week. That could really get those Canadian ducks moving into the area. The grouse hunting has been better than what you read about in the papers. The key is getting off the main trails and back into the woods. If you’re willing to do a little bushwhacking you will see some pretty good numbers of birds.

A jig and minnow is producing walleyes on the sharp breaks and weedlines of lakes such as Lida, Lizzie, Melissa, Big Detroit, Island, Strawberry, Cotton, and Big Toad. The key is to find the greenest weeds that remain. Muskie action is good on Pelican Lake and Big Detroit Lake. The largemouth bass bite remains steady on most lakes with jigs and plastics. Grouse hunting has been decent for those who choose to get off the beaten trails and there were quite a few ducks taken during opening weekend.

The walleye bite continues strong in the Detroit Lakes area. Lindy Max Gap jigs and large fatheads are turning good numbers of fish along the steep breaks. Some of the best fishing is in the middle of the afternoon. Northerns are on the bite and if you’re looking for some big fish, a large sucker minnow under a float has been working well. The largemouth bass bite continues hot! Topwater lures and spinnerbaits are turning a lot of fish early and later in the day in shallow water. Plastic baits fished deeper during the day are also working well. The leaves are steadily falling off the trees now which is a good thing for area grouse hunters who are getting some birds if they’re willing to get off the main trails and do some walking through the deep woods. Have a great day on the water or out in the woods!

Pelican Lake and Big Detroit Lake are giving up muskies in 12 to 14 feet of water. Walleye activity is getting better each day on lakes like Big Toad, Cotton, Cormorant, Melissa, Strawberry, White Earth, and Lizzie. Fishing the sharp, shoreline breaks or remaining weed edges with a jig and minnow is working best. Grouse numbers are better than most hunters anticipated, and a few ducks have moved into the area.

The walleye fishing remains good in the Detroit Lakes area although there are not many folks out fishing! Jigs and minnows are the way to go and the fish are getting quite aggressive as the water continues to cool. Pelican, Lida, Big Cormorant, Island, White Earth, Detroit, Lizzie, Cotton, Big Toad are all giving up some fish. Most fish are coming off the sharp breaks. Trolling big baits has been good for muskies on Pelican and Detroit. The largemouth bass continue to go on plastics fished on the deep breaks during the day. Starting to get some Canadian ducks moving into the area and with the leaves really coming off the trees now that should help the grouse hunters. Have a great day on the water or in the woods!

The few anglers who go out are catching walleyes on minnows at Big Toad Lake, White Earth Lake, Strawberry Lake, and Lake Lizzie. Trolling has worked better than casting for muskies on Big Detroit Lake. A few muskie reports have been heard off Pelican Lake as well. The lack of leaves has really improved grouse hunting opportunities and some cold weather would help push some ducks around.
