Most of the folks in the area have their boats put away and are getting ready for this weekend’s deer opener and then it won’t be long before the ice fishing season starts. However, for those of us who are still out there fishing, the walleye bite has been hot some days and cools down the next. The key is to stay on the move and find those pods of fish. The walleyes seem to be hanging off the sharpest breaks you can find. Jigs and minnows or Lindy rigs and minnows seem to be working best. Detroit, Cotton, Pelican, Lida, Big Cormorant, Strawberry, Island, White Earth, Sallie, Melissa and Lizzie are all worth your effort. A 50-inch muskie was caught and released last week on Big Detroit. We are starting to see more ducks move into the area. Hunters are flushing a fair amount of grouse out in the woods and the success rate has increased with no leaves left on the trees. The deer opener this weekend should be a good one! Plenty of deer around the area!
