Hello RandyMan I just purchased my first ice house - one with fold down wheels. All I have at this time is some rattle reels in it - what other items should I add to my "wish list" to make my home away from home more enjoyable? Also - mine is a sleeper ( with 2 bunks ) but has no fire alarm in it - do you think I should have one? My friend told me that if it did start on fire I would know because its small?? What other safety items should I have?? Thank you for the help! |

First, to answer your question about what to have in the fish house. I guess first thing I would take care of all the fishing things like tackle, auger, bait bucket, place to keep the fish went you catch them, rods and reels, and then there are a number of specially items that I carry. For example, when the ice gets really thick the like to carry the slush inhaler!
As far as making the house more enjoyable -- this is where personal taste comes in. I think it's a good idea to have pictures on the wall along with other things that'll personalize this home away from home. I have a number of pictures of family members and friends in my house. As for making a comfortable -- well, if you have a cook stove then bring the things that'll make cooking easy! This list can get rather lengthy, but break it down to the basics and pack everything in one spot -- for example I pack all my stuff in one plastic container this keeps it neat and organized. You can have as many creature comforts as you'd like, for example I have XM radio, satellite TV, CB, cook stove, AM/FM radio, electronic rattle reels that buzz and light up when fish takes the line, just to mention a few things! ;-) the main ideas to keep it personalized and well within your budget.
As far safety items -- fire and CO safety detectors are a must! I also carry with me a rope, ice pick, additional gloves and warm clothing along with a first aid kit.
Another real good idea is as you travel to other lakes and spend time ice fishing take a little time and visit other fishermen. You'll find that ice fishermen are some of the best people on earth and if they've got a neat little gadget. Most often the show it to you!
Enjoy the experience! |

CPRpro - I take everything and put into zip lock bags sorted into groups. Frome here they are stored in plastic boxes. This keeps things pretty well organized. I will post some pictures soon! |
