Hey Vicky
My 6 month old Lab has been doing VERY well - only problem is she has been passing some  GAS!! OH MY!! I tell you what - this stuff would make Jerry cry ! Next to leaving her outside - I do not know what to do! This STUFF - is as bad as it gets! She is in wonderful health, eats well, she seems to have no problem going potty - I am at a loss!
We feed her only IAMS - puppy for large breed
she gets treats - dog bone Milk Bone brand and nothing from the table.
Do we change what we feed her? is there a Beeno for dogs? Got any idea's?? Please help! |

Yikes, this sounds beyond lighting a candle! I don't have a bag of Iams handy or box of milk bones to check the ingredients, but look for soy products --- they can create more gas than normal. Yes, gas is normal. Anything that eats produces gas (we'll use Jerry as an example)! If possible, get her out to exercise after eating during the busiest digestive time. That way she'll be passing most of it outside. Good to hear there are no table scraps, that can really add to the problem. Too many milk bone snacks will also result in more gas. When you give them to her, break them up into smaller pieces. She'll still be happy about getting a snack, but it will add up to less in her digestive track. Try something like lean treats, which is mostly chicken, a lot less grain.
They do make products for this, but I haven't had any experience with them to know how effective they are. I've also heard about adding charcoal products (both available at pet stores) but the charcoal comes with a warning not to do very often as it also absorbs nutrients and a growing puppy doesn't want to be without nutrients. For that reason alone I would not recommend the product route without first checking with your vet. Watch ingredients, there may be a technical term for charcoal listed. Sorry, don't know what that is. Here's a sample of one product:

Helps reduce dog gas, flatulence, and bowel discomfort along with odor. Sixty easy to feed, chewable beef flavored tablets.
Dog Anti Gas Ingredients:
Dextrates, whey, rice brand, brewer's yeast, beef liver, stearic acid, simethicone, silicon dioxide, natural and artificial beef flavors, acacia, magnesium stearate, bentonite, parsley seed oil powder
Hope this helps. In the meantime, a fan and candle couldn't hurt!

Our dogs used to pass gas after eating those rawhide treats. But they loved the treats so much, we put up with the gas, and now that they're used to them, the gas seems to have passed. (Nice pun, eh?)
Wanna hear a funny story? One of our labs use to pass gas loudly. When that happened, he'd turn around and look at his tail end as if he couldn't figure out what was going on back there!
Another dog passed gas while lying at our feet by the couch. We'd start fanning, and he'd get up and walk off in a huff! Or maybe he was just embarrassed. We thought it was a hoot.
