Hi Randyman,
i understand you are into shiny things and I have a question.

A few years ago we took a trip into Ontario looking for Lake Trout. With 24 inches of spinner flash we had very good luck using cowbells.

With the fall northerns soon to put on the old feedbag - do you think they would be effective on the toothy critters?

Yes - Randy Man LOVES thing that shine!!

The cow bell question is a good one!

- Now I have never used cow bells for Northern - BUT - I have something like the cow bells for fall northern fishing! I like to make my own leaders from steel wire that is solid. I have added a single spinner to a few of these leaders and will use them during the fall and / or in muddy waters. I attach this spinner set up in front of a plug bait. The flash in front of the plug seems to add just the correct amount to upset Mr. Northern.

Give the cow bells a try - if they work - let us know!!

Enjoy the experience

I just got a phone call from a fishing friend of mine and I asked him your question about the cow bells -- He has used the following method in the fall and reports catching only LARGE fish!

Attach a cow bell to the line, add a 20+ inch line or leader to the end of that and then a large floating bait or dare devil. This trolled over drop offs and over deep water in late fall works for Musky. Now Musky and Northern have much the same mood - so I think it would work for them as well!

I will be giving it a try as soon as the tree's begin to turn color!

DominoJoe - Let me know if you have had the opportunity to try this out and if you had any luck!

If anyone else has attempted this - let me know if it worked!

Enjoy the Experience

randyman,

I took your advice and gave the cowbells and a orange and gold dimpled daredevil a try last night. We were working a 11 foot edge that dropped sharply into 20 feet of water. I don't know if it was because the pike were gorging themselves on sunfish or what but this presentation sure worked! We landed 20 pike in a hour and a half. Too much fun.

Fishin fool - That is wonderful!! Glad to hear it works! I gave this a try this past weekend - we got 6 but one was a good 11+ lbs.

Maybe have to come up with some Northern only cow bells Maybe make a little money off them so I can buy more tackle!
