After a couple weeks of pan fish and bass fishin', I thought it was time that Buck got out and try his hand at a little pike fishing.
This past Sunday, with a little encouragement, I talked my wife into joining me. Now you have to understand that my wife's, God love her, idea of a fishing trip is a sunny day, no wind, her knitting needles, a spool of yarn, and site seeing lake homes. Well, what the heck, I have a boat partner.
The day started out well with some storm clouds in the distance and some nice sunshine overhead. The pike weren't exactly in a positive mode but after trying a few lure variations and downsizing from large spoons, we hooked into a couple of fish.
After a few hours, the weather started turning and my experience told me it was time to let her off at the dock. Five minutes later - here comes the rain.
Now a little thunder didn't prohibit me from returning to the troll. Now, it is a well known fact among us old pikers that right before a rain can be a high percentage time to catch pike. Well, here I was - in a torrential downpour and I couldn't go fifty yards without hooking into another pike! Eight pike in thirty minutes. Now that it is what I call fun. |
