first cast-if we all cut minnesota in half...north -vs-south...for the minnesota walleye opener of 2007...are you more likely to head to southern or northern minnesota...its my un-official pole...i mean poll.......say hinckey minnesota for the line in the sand to cross so to speak...

2nd cast- would you on the opener  try some trout fishing that opens the same weekend...

We here at camp RandyMan's have a annual opener event started years ago with my buddy Liz. We get a bunch of family and friends together to fish the mine pits in Crosby,MN. A little different than fishing trout in a stream - but still lots of fun!

Hello Doug - I have the MN opener down as the 12th of May - I think stream trout may open around the 14th of April????

What do you fish for in the Red River? - Can you fish from the shore?

CPR Pro--with high water I generally fish some of the inlet drains on the Red. This time of year I'll pitch daredevils for pike.

Grouselady---yeah, nice thing about the Red is you dont' HAVE to have a boat.

minnesota has at least 5 different trout season openers.(calendar yr)..check the regs...1st the bwca lakes then outside the bwca lakes -then these two ice seasons close back down mid to late march-and the streams actually become free of ice and you can fish up to the first natural barrier, then the general stream opener- mid april , then the the lakes in and out of the bwca open early may this year and finally the stream sanctuary open's may 15th and these are permantly posted at road crossing's...and this brief saga does not cover southern minnesota trout fishing...again check the regs...with the walleye opener and lake fishing forseveral types of trout opening the same weekend...some fantastic opportunities...good luck and thanks to all of you who answered my query
