This is the old secret family venison hotdish recipe that ends up in deer camp each year.
I can't remember how it got its name.
- 1 1/2 lbs. ground venison or elk
- 1 lb. sliced bacon
- 3 tbsp. butter
- 1 cup celery (diced)
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 can peas (16 oz.)
- 1 can mushrooms
- 2 cans tomato soup
- 1 cup cooked wild rice
Brown beef and 1/2 of the bacon (cut into small pieces). Remove most of bacon grease.
Add butter, celery and onion, simmer 10 minutes.
Add peas, mushrooms, tomato soup and cooked rice.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Place the remainder of the bacon (slices) on top.
Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
