Loading a deer alone
First drop your tailgate and then slide one end of the plywood to the ground. Then roll the deer onto the wood. Now you can raise the lower end of the plywood sheet and slide it into the truck using your legmuscles rather than your back. This reduces the risk of back injuryand keeps your clothing cleaner too.

Safe Deer Hunting - Tree Stand Hunting
Hunting Deer: If you are going to bowhunt or gun hunt out of a tree, make sure you are always tied to the tree going up or down. I use a safety line with a prussik knot that can save my life anytime. If you'd like instructions on how to set this up, send me your email address and I'll send you the info free. Safe hunting, Jim safetreehunt@yahoo.com

Hunting Deer: Quite Snack Time in the Deer Woods.
Avoid bringing noisy packaging material into the deer woods. Open and store food in a zip-lock bag before leaving camp. Don't want the buck of a lifetime getting away due to a noisy candybar wrapper.

Buy a Box of Rubber Gloves.
While Deer hunting, I always keep a supply of rubber gloves handy. Whether it is for gutting a deer or just filling up the truck with gas (scent control) they are sure handy during hunting season.

Deer Hunting - Waiting For The Perfect Shot
Why wait for that perfect broadside shot? Take the first lethal shot you feel comfortable with. How many times have you watched the deer walk away, only to think later, I could have taken him if I hadn't waited.

Shooting From A Tree Stand
Hunting Deer: Practice shooting from an elevated position, preferably sitting down. Many people climb their stands and miss or worse yet wound a deer, only to find out they shoot different from the elevated and sitting position.

Deer Hunting Cheap Masking Scent
A cheap masking scent can be made from a solution of warm water and baking soda. You can also wash your clothes in baking soda to eliminate odors. The baking soda also makes a good powder for checking wind direction.

Don't Pack Away That Fishing Gear - Use it for Deer Hunting
Just because it's hunting season doesn't mean you should pack all your fishing gear away. A fishing creel packed with deer tracking equipment: (batteries, survival kit, first aid kit, etc...) makes an excellent tote bag for all those needed items.

Stop That Deer
Many times a hunter can stop a moving deer by using a deer call or a short sharp whistle. This could provide the hunter the needed time to get the shot off.

Hunting at a Slower Pace
Hunting at a Slower Pace

As I get a bit older I hunt much slower. I figure there must be some older deer that don’t move as fast. so as I age, they age, and with the time and space continuum factor we will meet eventually anyhow. So today I will mosey back to my deer shack and perch on one of two crates outside...

Whitetail Buck Poker - Are You In or Out?
Whitetail Buck Poker - Are You In or Out?

This morning I’d bet a months worth of live bait that whitetail bucks will start itching the velvet off those new antlers. To me there is no way they started yesterday. This morning I was roused from my sleep by a wind blowing in my bedroom window at 3:31 am. It was cool and refreshing. The temp demanded my down comforter. I obliged, but not for long...

The Buck That Made Me a Better Hunter
The Buck That Made Me a Better Hunter I have seen this antlered deer five times this fall. He’s got a blonde tall tined rack that nobody could forget. He’s not Boone and Crocket or a record head for anybody else. But in my book, he is spectacular. I caught him sleeping one day I was chasing woodcock in October and I have been buck struck, ever since. I watched him sleeping and actually saw him open his eyes...keep reading

Deer Noises
Deer Noises

When you get a little older sounds enter the ear canal just not as loud as you need them to. So you lean a bit and look harder to make the sound clearer, which is mostly nonsense. Well near as I can tell, my hunting partner is snapping branches in his deer stand...

How Do Deer Senses Work?
How Do Deer Senses Work? If a hunter is attempting to avoid the detection of deer while hunting, he must pay particular attention to sight, scent and sound.
