Loading a deer alone
First drop your tailgate and then slide one end of the plywood to the ground. Then roll the deer onto the wood. Now you can raise the lower end of the plywood sheet and slide it into the truck using your legmuscles rather than your back. This reduces the risk of back injuryand keeps your clothing cleaner too.

Mid-morning Pheasant Locations
By mid-morning, pheasants have left the fields for the densest, thickest cover they can find, such as a standing corn, federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) fields, brush patches, wetlands, or native grasses. The birds will "hunker down here for the day until late afternoon.

Where Do Pheasant Go in Late Afternoon ?
Pheasants have to eat again. During the late afternoon, the birds move from their loafing spots back to the feeding areas. As in the morning, birds now are easier to spot from a distance and are more accessible to hunters. That's why the first and last shooting hours are consistently the best times to hunt pheasants.

How to Hunt Pheasants in Small Groups
It's next to impossible for small hunting groups of two to three hunters to work large fields of standing corn. Pheasants often run to avoid predators, a response that frustrates dogs and hunters working corn, soybean, and alfalfa fields. Groups of two or three hunters usually have better success working grass fields, field edges, or fencerows. Other likely spots during midday are ditch banks and deep into marshes. Remember: The nastier the weather, the deeper into cover the pheasant will go.

Pheasant Morning Feeding Time
Pheasants usually begin feeding around 8 a.m. When shooting hours begin an hour later, the birds are still feeding, often in grain fields while cautiously making their way toward safe cover. Look for the edges of picked cornfields. Source: MN DNR

Road Hunting for Pheasants
This is not so much of a tip, but a question for you to seek an answer for... thus, it will become a tip for many Minnesota hunters. The question is this: while road hunting for pheasants, I am confused of the regulations and descriptions for when and where I can arm my firearm and shoot at a pheasant. Does the law state that I can shoot from a road but not across the road? Or does it state that the road continues into the ditch for a certain distance (such as 10 feet, etc.)? What exactly are the regulations for shooting or not shooting from a road? Thanks, Donnie

Deer Stand Movement
If you leave your stand up during the off season you can tie a old wash cloth or something of the sort to your stand. that way the deer get used to the movement and eventually dont bother even looking up..

Hunting Deer Waiting Game
The best chance of getting that big buck is to WAIT. Sit in the stand as long as you can not just in the morning and evening. As long as you possibly can.

Safe Deer Hunting - Tree Stand Hunting
Hunting Deer: If you are going to bowhunt or gun hunt out of a tree, make sure you are always tied to the tree going up or down. I use a safety line with a prussik knot that can save my life anytime. If you'd like instructions on how to set this up, send me your email address and I'll send you the info free. Safe hunting, Jim safetreehunt@yahoo.com

Hunting Deer: Quite Snack Time in the Deer Woods.
Avoid bringing noisy packaging material into the deer woods. Open and store food in a zip-lock bag before leaving camp. Don't want the buck of a lifetime getting away due to a noisy candybar wrapper.

Buy a Box of Rubber Gloves.
While Deer hunting, I always keep a supply of rubber gloves handy. Whether it is for gutting a deer or just filling up the truck with gas (scent control) they are sure handy during hunting season.

Deer Hunting - Waiting For The Perfect Shot
Why wait for that perfect broadside shot? Take the first lethal shot you feel comfortable with. How many times have you watched the deer walk away, only to think later, I could have taken him if I hadn't waited.
