Just came in from an afternoon of norhtern fishing on the chain! Had a fishing buddy tell me we could catch a bunch of northern in little time - so I took him up on the offer and let me tell you - I am one happy guy! We started with 2 doz. suckers and had to go in for more minnows! This is a beautiful lake that sees very little in the way of ice fishing! Every spot we went to had fish! We had our best action on the north end of upper whitefish - however - we got nice northerns on EVERY spot!! 15 to 20 foot seem to work best - 5 foot off the bottom with sucker minnows seeing most the action. We did get a few jigging but they seemed to be smaller fish than the ones on tip ups! At the end of the day I moved out to the end of a point into 35 feet of water and started to jig for walleye. I marked fish for a long time but just after the sun went down is when they turned on. We had a bunch of action with most fish 3/4 to 1 lb. We again ran out of minnows! For walleye on this lake I would bring fatheads and jig with gold spoons, just after dark change to a smaller glow in the dark spoon. Look at sharp drops with small flats at about 30 foot or better. enjoy the experience Randy Man
