Fishing - It's All In The Family
Fishing - It's All In The Family Fishing - It's All In The Family - My three kids all landed their first fish before turning 3, and accompanied the older ones on trips in car seats and strollers. We have many family memories pivoting around fishing excursions and none of them are about limits, whoppers or full buckets of fish. They are about places, each other and little things like chucking stones, playing with minnows, nightcrawlers and dozens of other happenings that would never occur indoors...keep reading

Gulp vs. Live Bait - A Fishing Guides Observation
Gulp vs. Live Bait - A Fishing Guides Observation Gulp vs. Live Bait - A Fishing Guides Observation - I believe in giving everything a fair chance especially when it involves fishing strategy. I've been around long enough to sample and test various scented baits or spray applications throughout the years with varying success. Fish Formula, Chummin' Rub, Berkely Strike and of course Power Bait to name a few. Now there is Gulp! I've messed with it for 2-3 yrs and I am, as of now, not convinced that it is as good as live bait - false advertising? keep reading

Looking For Walleye? Try the Weeds
Looking For Walleye? Try the Weeds Looking For Walleye? Try the Weeds - Like many "opener" fishing excursions, the majority of anglers I observed were trying shallow water probably somewhere between 5-12 ft deep and with some success. At least for my boat, last Saturday pushed us into a couple of different depth ranges. Now that I think of it, we didn't even fish shallower than 19 ft. The majority of the fish we boated were pulled out of...keep reading

Rainbow trout easy! look!
Get some 100% whole wheat bread and go to a nice river, now tear off the crust and a bit of center and throw the pieces out where you think the trout are.Now wait 2-5 minutes, and if they start hopping and eating it,get a small piece and make a bread pellet, put it on your hook, now throw it 2 feet away from the latest splash, and slowly pull your rod up and watch the line, one should bite any time now. Remember to set the hook and reel!works on rainbow trout and other small trout.Hope it works for you,it did for me!

Don't be fooled, walleyes are aggressive fish
Forget what you have learned. Remember this--sunlight or clear water, they like to eat insects, more walleyes survive on mud and weeds than rock, they can be found anywhere in the water column, time of day has nothing to do with success, the walleye was originally a river fish and stocked in lakes, and they do not "tap" when they bite. In other words, a walleye is a northern pike without the slime, Good Luck, Capt. Josh

Move That Boat and Don't Sit So Long
Don't sit to long! What I mean is--if you are not getting fish in the boat within a few minutes of finding them or checking out a new area then fire up that over priced boat your sitting in and move to a new location immediately. Covering water and finding active fish fast! produces results Good Luck, Capt. Josh.

Bass Tip
Bass are territorial and they also react to our presence. Bass are like beautiful women they love to show off the goods. Bass love to flip, splash and say look at me and try to catch me. Sound familiar gentlemen? Bass respond to many presentations, and it is important to offer them options. Bass are seasoned in the art of bait removal i.e. " the empty hook", they are also excellent at throwing off a hook or lure. They are strong and take great pleasure in avoiding capture and taunting the angler. If all else is not working try an old fashioned Night Crawler, if that doesn't work you might need a wetsuit and spear gun.

Don't let that fish smell you - Anise your hands
Every one knows that a fish can smell you on the lures you've touched. Oils from your hands do not easily wash off once the lure hits the water. Try rubbing your hands with anise seeds, which can be bought for about .50 cents in many grocery stores. This will help eliminate the scent of your hands on the lure.

Tips on keeping fresh bait
Tired of having foam leech container break apart? Re-use a 20 oz. or smaller beverage container for leeches. Just keep in the cooler with the other beverages. Remeber to take to label off to avoid surprises! Keeping a couple of small stones in the minnow bucket will sink the bucket into deeper/colder water during the warmer summer months. Just don't submerge it into the mud, as it will not have positive results.

Sick of loosing slip bobber after breakoffs?
If you are sick and tired of chasing slip bobbers across the lake after you snap your line. Simply put a small split shot above your bait to act as a "stopper". If you are afraid of having the split shot corrupt the action of your bait simply use a bobber stop instead. If you want to attract attention underwater don't snip off the extra string.

Rusty Fishing Hooks
Throw away RUSTY fish hooks. The chances of poking yourself may result in blood poisoning, and a quick trip to the Emergency Room.

Fighting a Bass
When you are fighting a fish and trying to get him back in the boat, at all costs DO NOT LET THEM JUMP!!! It looks really cool and all when a bass goes airborne on you and does some neat acrobatic tricks, but that is the easiest way for them to throw the hook on you. Too many times I've seen guys that I fish with "horsing" a fish to the boat with their rod tip straight up in the air. If you have a fish that wants to dive deep on you, then put your rod tip up and keep the tension on the fish. However, if the fish is screaming for the suface, LOWER YOUR ROD TIP! Don't put slack in the line or anything, just hold your rod to the side, but with the rod tip low. If you keep upward tension on the fish as it comes to the surface, you just make it that much easier for the fish to jump. And if you have tension on the line when it jumps, then you will more than likely loose that fish. So in short, my tip is if you think the fish is going to jump on you, keep tension on the fish by lowering...
